It’s not often you get the chance to simultaneously dine at one of Melbourne’s iconic restaurants and take a trip into the past, but that is exactly what Taxi Kitchen is offering. Taxi Kitchen is hosting a special celebration event, highlighting the incredible milestone and achievements that this Fed Square staple has earned over the past two decades.
Welcoming back one of the original culinary geniuses in Chef Michael Lambie, alongside current Executive Head Chef and fine dining expert Tony Twitchett. These two are no strangers, having worked alongside each other at the pass for over a decade and helping Taxi Kitchen (then Taxi Dining Room) earn 2 hats in The Age Good Food Guide. Bringing these two back together promises to deliver a night of incredible food, passion and fun in the kitchen. Whilst the menus and their skills may have evolved over time, there is one thing that has remained the same these past 20 years and that is their connection when creating a dining experience together.
Taxi Kitchen has been a feature along the Yarra River for over 20 years and if you haven’t had the chance to visit or it’s been a while since your last dining experience, this event is the time to visit. Together Tony and Michael will be delivering 9 dishes, celebrating the rich history of Taxi Kitchen in every bite. Focussed on bringing greater attention to the plethora of amazing local Victorian produce Tony and Michael will take you on a journey through all of your Taxi Kitchen favourites, you’ll feel the nostalgia in each course.

The event will take place at Taxi Kitchen, Level 1, Transport Hotel – Flinders & Swanston Street on Wednesday, June 14th with a 6:30pm arrival for a 7pm start. Tickets are available and selling fast for only $175 per person. The ticket includes an incredible 9 dishes over a 5-course menu with matching Victorian wines. The 9 dishes feature an array of all-time classic Taxi Kitchen flavours and dishes.
Prepare your tastebuds for a trip down memory lane with Southern Rock Lobster ravioli with cucumber and spice lime dressing; Kataifi-wrapped scallops with soused shallot and wasabi dressing and a rich Wagyu steak tartare with black garlic atop a sesame rice cracker. If that isn’t enough to incentive to purchase your ticket the second course will see the classics continue including Kingfish sashimi, coconut with lemongrass & chilli dressing; Rare seared tuna with daikon and a zingy ginger & wasabi dressing, as well as Quail and pistachio ballotine with foie gras parfait and pear and ginger chutney.
If you’re not quite salivating enough Chef Tony Twitchett is preparing larger plates that include the moreish Crispy skinned snapper with tempura mussels and caramelised anise broth served with fluffy steamed rice; followed closely by Stone Axe Wagyu porterhouse MB 7+ with horseradish cream and yakiniku. For the sweet tooths among us, the night will be polished off with a warm embrace from a Passionfruit soufflé featuring a caramelised white chocolate centre and a side of coconut sorbet. Remember you’ll indulge in all of this for only $175 per person with matching wines!
