It doesn’t matter what time of the year you visit, the Yarra Valley never disappoints. Whether it’s the wine, fresh air or a fabulous event that brings you North of Melbourne – you can expect a different experience each time. This autumn brought us to The Farmhouse at Meletos after countless recommendations and an existing love for the Meletos restaurant. So off we went to wine country to experience the best accommodation in Yarra Valley.
Luxury accommodation in Yarra Valley
Nestled next to the gorgeous Stones of the Yarra, The Farmhouse at Meletos is a boutique hotel with an intimate 23 rooms. Unlike other hotels and accommodation in the Yarra Valley, each room is absolutely unique in its decor and sweeping views. We were fortunate enough to get a stunning room that had views stretching across the vines and apple orchards to the Great Divide. The ensuite was beautifully appointed, and a sneaky afternoon nap had us waking up to an unbelievable afternoon view of The Meletos estate. We were off to a fabulous start.
The decor, bathroom and furnishings each have their own flair with the styling perfectly executed. The linen was anything but the hotel standard, and we even had to check the label to see if we could find these brands when we got back to Melbourne. You cannot get better accommodation in Coldstream than this. Each room has different views of the estate so be sure to discuss the options when you book your room so that you can wake up to the view of your choice.
Best wines in the Yarra Valley found at The Providore
Despite the beautiful dinner we had planned that evening, we had spied The Providore at Meletos and went looking for our aperitivo. The Providore at Meletos is a stylishly curated store with cheese, chocolates, cold meats and a fine range of local wines. There are also gorgeous gifts made from Yarra Valley makers to suit any gift occasion or home styling.
We bought an unbelievably ripe brie, crackers and some danish salami to take back to the room next door. When we stayed at Farmhouse at Meletos, there was a wedding the day before (Friday) and one that day (Saturday), so each of the guestrooms were booked with wedding attendees. We were struck by how convenient it all was – the venue next door, places for the guests to mingle in the lobby and set up some snacks from The Providore at Meletos. For wedding accommodation in the Yarra Valley, this is a great spot. For Stones of the Yarra accommodation – there is nowhere else you would want!
Fine dining in the Yarra Valley at The Stables
Finally, it was time for dinner, and we made the short but scenic stroll to The Stables. Like Meletos and Farmhouse itself, The Stables had its own identity within the collection. The styling reminded us of a rustic Barnhouse that meets a decadent dining hall. There were long tables with elaborate floral arrangements and decor in the middle, splitting one couple or groups that sat on opposite ends to another couple or group. It was an interesting way to arrange a restaurant but absolutely fit the atmosphere.
Our favourite dish had to be the Sher Wagyu with leek, turnip and black garlic. That said, each of the dishes at The Stables in Yarra Valley was absolutely divine, and they seamlessly accommodated our dietary requirements without compromising flavour. We also loved the palette cleanser that came between mains and dessert, which was a watermelon sorbet with liqueur – a flavour and texture we have not come across before but gratefully enjoyed.
The Stables restaurant in Yarra Valley often change their menu and their Yarra Valley stay and dine packages – so be sure to clarify what is included when you book. At the time of our visit in March of 2021, we enjoyed the below menu. We were also delighted to be asked if we wanted the selection of cheeses to be packaged up so we could enjoy in the room. How could we say no? The cheese platter was enjoyed with our selection of wines bought earlier from The Providore and was the perfect night cap.
The Yarra Valley is a destination we will never get sick of visiting and enjoy a completely different experience every single time. Be sure to check out The Farmhouse At Meletos if you are staying in Yarra Valley or attending a Yarra Valley wedding. This is our favourite Coldstream accommodation option!
