Melbourne’s vibrant Latin American dining scene gets a Peruvian twist this July as Barra, the relaxed sister restaurant to hatted Morena in the bustling Collins Street precinct, launches its special ‘Taste of Peru’ menu to mark Peru’s National Independence Day on July 28th.
Running throughout July, the dedicated menu offers Melburnians an authentic taste of Peru for $85 per person, featuring both beloved Peruvian classics and dishes that highlight the country’s distinctive flavours and indigenous ingredients.
What’s on the Menu
The specially curated selection includes several of Barra’s signature dishes alongside new additions. Diners can expect to find the restaurant’s popular market fish ceviche, elevated with aji limo leche de tigre and sweet potato, plus the distinctive ox tongue anticucho prepared with authentic Peruvian dried chillies.
A standout addition is the free-range chicken with aji de gallina sauce and Peruvian olives – Barra’s interpretation of Peru’s beloved comfort food. The dish gets its characteristic bright yellow hue from ají amarillo peppers, creating both visual appeal and authentic flavour.
July also spotlights Peru’s national cocktail with Barra’s take on the classic Pisco Sour, crafted with Barsol Quebranta Pisco, lime, egg whites and sugar. The cocktail serves as a liquid tribute to Peru’s complex history and cultural evolution.
