Hot off the heels of Halloween comes a stranger than fiction beauty trend that just might be the furthest thing from beauty at first glance. It is called Black Oxygen Organics, or BOO as it is referred to by those in the know, and could be straight from the Goop online store with its controversial practice.
Available in powder or tablet form, The Black Oxygen Organics website says that organic matter is made up of 70+ minerals and can be traced back 60,000 years ago. The active ingredient is fulvic acid and the benefits appear to be far-reaching in its mental and physical impacts, with even beauty product debunkers giving this product a surprised and approving nod.
What is Fulvic Acid?
So, what does it do? This anti-inflammatory wonder mineral moves through the body and allegedly crosses the blood-brain barrier, binding to nutrients, carrying up to sixty times its molecular weight in nutrition into the cell. Fulvic acid also bonds to waste inside the cell, removing up to sixty times its weight in toxins, heavy metals and pesticides.
Pseudoscience? Maybe. Nevertheless, this is where things start to look a bit like a Black Mirror episode. Users of this ‘magic dirt’ are applying it topically, bathing in it, and a few women have been applying it per rectum as some kind of DIY dirt enema.
There is a sea of happy faces with the ‘magic dirt’ caked onto their faces for absorption, with one member shocked by how alert they have been since using the product and noting that their hair and fingernails are growing quickly at a rapid pace.
Is Black Oxygen Organics legit?
The BOO Australia Facebook group, which has 4.1k members, has hundreds of posts from people who are finding worms and other parasites to be left in the bathwater when they get out and some have discovered worms in their stool. Look – we have all done some weird things for beauty and health, but are these minerals really capable of expelling bugs?
The most incredible claims have been significant weight loss, no more meat and dairy cravings, deeper sleep, no desire to smoke, fuller lips, sun spots fading, better digestion, eczema clearing, healing PCOS, and quite literally every other thing you can imagine. The less tangible claims are that of feeling more connected, meeting quality people, motivation, unconditional love and many more life-affirming reactions. One shared experience is that this mineral is potent, with few delving into the darker side of their transformations with an alarming number of women experiencing anxiety, severe depression and even hearing voices before the positive effects revealed themselves.
I find myself reading these ‘reviews’ in the Facebook group with a grimace. With a nurse, doctor and scientist in the family, I have inherited more than an average dose of scepticism when it comes to miracles touted like this.
Where can I buy Fulvic Acid?
The wellness industry has certainly given similar products and ideologies a place to thrive, with our social psyche unconsciously believing natural automatically means good. The added grittiness also has a way of enhancing value, as if we have earned the fruits that these ugly applications yield.
If you are curious to buy some Black Oxygen Organics powder, you won’t be able to cure all your ailments just yet. The rapid popularity of this worm wonder power has meant that the website and most pharmacies and chemist stockists have sold out, with adventurous beauty junkies having to wait until the next shipment. Although, if the powder has been 60,000 years in the making, surely we can wait a few extra weeks before giving it a try.
Well, you kind of have to see it to believe it – but many brave women have made the plunge and used this ancient mineral on every part of their body. Check out our other Melbourne beauty and wellness topics!
