There is no question that Korean desserts are the most extra out there, both a spectacle to see and so decadent in flavour. When we heard that the iconic Sulbing Premium Cafe was opening a second location at Melbourne Central (next to Starbucks) we were very excited. We have made considerable effort to try every one of their incredible desserts at the flagship Lonsdale cafe, and now we have another Sulbing Premium Cafe to frequent.
If you are yet to drop in at one of these fantastic cafes, the menu, atmosphere and Instagrammable desserts are sure to convert you.
The Bingu menu at Sulbing Premium Cafe
Sulbing is a Korean word that translates to “snow ice” in English, and it is the literal base of these Korean desserts in Melbourne. Whether you like your desserts fruity, chocolatey or you are chasing that traditional matcha flavour – there is something for everyone.
The friendly staff at solving premium cafe showed me to a beautiful sun-lit table that overlooked Lonsdale Street and walked me through the menu. I told them what I liked and they recommended the Premium Strawberry Sulbing and said it was one of their most popular. When they brought over the huge desert I quickly found out why.
That the bowl contained beautiful chop strawberries whipped cream delicious ice shavings and a piece of cheesecake poking out of the top. No regrets about what I ordered! The Bingsu also comes with a small jug of condensed milk if you truly want to indulge. I also ordered a coffee which was made perfectly with lots of different milk available to order.
Here is the cafe menu so you can decide what you want before you go. If like us, you think they all look great – we can recommend the following Bingsu’s that we saw being enjoyed at the cafe:
- Caramel Coffee Sulbing
- Mango Cheese Sulbing
- Oreo Sulbing
- Chocolate Brownie Sulbing
- Green tea Chocolate Sulbing
Oh, and if you think you will not be able to finish your Bingsu – they will package it up in a cute little take-away bag. If you are a sucker for lolly boxes delivered in Melbourne – this is a pretty good comparison!
The other sweet treats at Sulbing Premium Cafe
The Bingsu’s are the desserts to choose at Sulbing Premium Cafe, although there are some other sweet treats on offer if you are not up for the big Bingsu’s. These sweet Korean desserts caught our eye when we first entered the cafe, and they can be found at the front of the store behind a cabinet. We loved the look of the Slice Roll and Shortcake. You can also order some Waffles in Strawberry, Caramel, Match and Injeolmi.
There is also the Honey Butter Bread which looks as good as it sounds, trust us! There is also the Cheese Teokbokki Pizza in case you feel like something a little more savoury.
The atmosphere at Sulbing Premium Cafe
I was curious to see what kind of customers frequented this fabulous Korean dessert bar in the city, and it was a real mix. There were clusters of friends between three and four people each sharing a Bingsu with their own spoon and coffee. There were also families with small children who have ordered a couple of Bingsu’s and were making their way through them together. There were also a few couples at Sulbing Premium Cafe, which struck me as one of those great Melbourne date ideas.
We also love the Sulbing Premium Cafe decor, with little vignettes scattered around the cafe and pulling your attention. We noted there was a cute little arrangement of animal figurines huddled around big vases of fresh flowers. The decor, floor-to-ceiling windows and pops of colour make Sulbing a sight for sore eyes on a grey Melbourne day.
We hope you enjoyed this review of the Sulbing Premium Cafe and the many tasty Korean desserts in Melbourne. You must order a Bingsu, although the baked desserts, coffees and drinks are a great second choice!
