A new national survey from VIVA Paper Towel recently revealed almost a quarter (24%) of Aussies spend up to 20+ hours a week cleaning. What’s more, locally, VIVA’s research uncovered that 45% of VIC residents clean three or more days a week.
While keeping the house tidy may have a positive impact on our homes and minds – over half of Victorians (52%) agree cleaning helps calm them down – VIVA has teamed up with TV personality, Matty J to conduct a search for Australia’s Fastest Cleaner to help Aussies cut down on their cleaning time and make more time for the good stuff in life.
Today, we’re chatting to the Victorian state champion, Arlene Jayne Bate, a professional hoarding and squalor cleaner who runs the popular Instagram page @MrsMuscleCleaningAus, about her favourite cleaning hacks. Here are five tips to change how you clean.
- Cleaning baseboards with dryer sheets
One sweep with a dryer sheet is all you need to mop visible dirt and dust along your skirting boards. Just watch this video that’s been viewed over 500,000 times. - Who needs a vacuum when you’ve got a squeegee
Before vacuuming, use a squeegee to scrape up fluff and hair from your carpet. It makes the carpet super fluffy too! - Clean your shower while you’re in there
This sounds obvious but to remove built-up grime from your shower walls and floor, simply fill a brush that’s equipped with a soap dispenser with dish soap, then use it to scrub away dirt while you shower. Talk about efficiency. - Make spilled wax disappear with paper towel
If you accidentally spill candle wax on a carpet the lay down some paper towel over it (I like a fast absorbing one like VIVA!) and then go over the spill gently with an iron – the paper towel will soak the wax right up! - Get rid of pesky pasta stains in tupperware with paper towel
To remove pasta or other sauce stains from plastic tupperware containers, simply fill the container with warm water and dish soap. Then, seal the container and shake lightly for 30 seconds. Pour the soapy water out and wipe the container down with paper towel.
Next month, Arlene will go head to head with four other top cleaning enthusiasts from around the country to battle it out for the national title of ‘Australia’s Fastest Cleaner’.
Putting their best speed cleaning techniques to the test, each will need to tackle the House of Spills – a timed cleaning challenge where each contestant will have to wipe up a series of spills and messes as quickly as possible armed with Australia’s fastest absorbing paper towel, VIVA.
