When it comes to Australian animals, few compare to the cute and cuddliness of the Koala. If you’ve ever seen a koala up close and personal, then you’ll know exactly what we mean. Their fur is as soft as pillows and seeing them in the flesh is unlike any other animal you’ve ever seen. The good news is you can now experience all of the cute and cuddly wonder of a Koala in the heart of Cairns city, at the new Cairns Koalas & Creature experience. We recently had the chance to visit the experience with our little one, and here is how we enjoyed the perfect day out.
What to expect from Cairns Koalas & Creatures?
The Cairns Koalas and Creatures experience is your chance to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most interesting native wildlife. The experience is encapsulated in a small venue, making the experience feel all the more personal. As you enter through the main doors, you’ll have the chance to get any refreshments you might like, such as a cold drink or a coffee to enjoy as you walk through the experience.
As you enter, the education begins, with plenty of information on each of the animals or creatures at the experience. There is an abundance of educational materials in the experience to help you learn all there is to learn about the wildlife at the centre. The first animal experience is their aviary where you can see the most beautifully colourful birds chirping and flying from branch to branch. From rainbow lorikeets to other native Australian birds, the aviary is a sensory experience for the whole family to enjoy. If you’re lucky, a little flying friend will even say hello up close on the wire fence.
Next, as you make your way through, it’s time for the main event, the cuddly koalas. The koalas are so close you can almost touch them, with our furry friends enjoying some well-deserved eucalyptus on their perches. There are three koalas to say hello to, the beautiful trio of LuLu, Nellie and the patriotic Pavlova. In your interaction with the three cuddly koalas, you can also learn all about their habitats, behaviour and history in our beautiful country. The option is also available to purchase a ticket with a photo included, where you can get up close and personal with one of the three koalas at the experience, a memory to keep for a lifetime.
The final section of the experience offers viewers the chance to see some more of Australia’s iconic wildlife up close and personal, including the amazing blue-tongue lizards. The blue tongues are shown in their preferred habitat and if you’ve never seen a blue-tongue lizard before, you’ll be amazed by these little native creatures. Included in the ticket, is a visual experience to learn all about how Australia came to be, its natural fauna and the rich history of the land we all enjoy. If you are travelling with little ones, there is also a nice arts and crafts section to do some colouring and creative activities which the kids are sure to love.
Where are Cairns Koalas & Creatures located?
